Barbie fans have gone wild for the latest teaser trailer, and who could blame them?! Margot Robbie is officially pulling off pink, and I think I know just the gem for her…

Back in my “I’m a Barbie girl” days, aka the early 2000s, Barbie could be summarised as genetically improbable dolls with impressive careers and a literal dream house, which surely put my Mum out for a pretty penny. Now, at 21, I’m scrolling my Insta from Vogue to Glamour, with all eyes on Margot Robbie, and her seemingly never ending sparkle, as she prepares to take over our screens this summer. I’ve always been a pink girl, but I’m now ready to go all out Barbie!

When you hear ‘sapphire’, what do you imagine? For most people, it’s a rich admiral blue, perhaps deep peacock or cobalt at a push. But did you know that sapphire can be any colour of the rainbow? Sapphire comes in pink, green, purple, peach, orange purple, yellow, and more! 

Pink is one of the rarest sapphire colours, caused by chromium trace elements inside the corundum crystal. The deeper the pink, the more chromium is present. Red corundum, however, is called ruby, another gem variety of the same mineral.

It may be silly, but I just know Barbie would be a pink sapphire lover too. From intense magenta to baby pink, the choices are endless. Pink sapphires were once considered extremely rare as they were found in only a few locations, but since new deposits were found in Madagascar in the 1990s it’s become a more readily available gemstone!

I’m obsessed with the Tiffany collections of pink sapphire rings. Crafted in platinum with pavé diamonds, they’re stunning with a romantic sensibility! These rings are both clean, contemporary and distinctly modern. I think it’s fair to say either of these would be a dream for me!
